Meet Rollie Roundman[]

(The scene opens to a school auditorium stage. A talking shape appears. His name is Rollie Roundman, and he is a blue circle.)

ROLLIE ROUNDMAN: Hi kids, I'm rockin' Rollie, the really radical rock n roll Roundman, and I wanna show you some really cool things the most beautiful things you will ever see... COLORS! That's right colors are all around us in our wonderful universe. Let's sing a song about some of the colors we see every day.

Meet Trollie Triangle[]

ROLLIE ROUNDMAN: That was really radical! I have been having so much fun learning with you. But now it's time for me to introduce my good friend. His name is Trollie Triangle. (to Trollie Triangle) Take it away, Trollie!

(Rollie Roundman has to split and goes off the auditorium stage to have a break. Then Trollie Triangle --a red triangle-- appears. He appears with a balalaika --new version only.)

Learn Our Shapes[]

Hey, hey, cool kids, look all around us shapes are everywhere, let's learn the names of some of these shapes!

Come on everyone.
Let’s have a super time.
We’re going to learn our shapes,
And make a rhyme.

A circle is round,
Like a plate, pie, or penny.
If you look for a flat side,
It doesn’t have any.

(Chorus)

A triangle is pointed,
Like an ice cream cone. (An ice cream cone appears. It turns out to be green ice cream in a sugar or waffle cone. And because the ice cream is green, it is either mint chocolate chip or pistachio.)

(gasping) Look at all the shapes *on this page*. They are all different sizes, some are little, some are big and some are in between we call the little shapes small, the big shapes are called large, and the ones in between small and large are called medium. Neato! Now let's play the fun game "What Color Is It" with Trollie.

TROLLIE TRIANGLE: Well, I have to split. But say hello to my good friend, Rockford Rectangle.

(Trollie Triangle goes offscreen to have a break. So he leaves the auditorium stage. Then Rockford Rectangle --a green rectangle-- appears.)

ROCKFORD RECTANGLE: Thank you, Trollie, pleased to meet you everyone.

Zero[]

(Rollie) What if I put my hands behind my back? How many fingers can you count then?

(Rockford) My good friend, you can't count any fingers.

(Rollie) (gasps) Oh, no! What are we going to do now!?

(Rockford) Do calm down. We can say we see zero fingers.

(Rollie) Zero?

(Rockford) That's right. Zero is the same thing as none.

(Camera cuts to the lollipops. As Rollie explains about having zero lollipops, the candy part on the stick --of the lollipops-- dissolves and the sticks disappear offscreen. In the old version, it is three strawberry flavored lollipops --three red lollipops. In the new version, it is one strawberry, one lemon, and one blueberry --one red, one yellow, and one blue lollipop.)

(Rollie) Oh, so when I don't have any lollipops, I would have zero lollipops.

(Rockford) That is correct.

(The scene cuts back to Rollie and Rockford.)

(Rollie) Bummer!

(Rockford) Indeed.

Mixing Colors[]

(Trollie) Hey, Rollie. What happens when colors get mixed together?

(Rollie) They make other colors. And did you know that with just three colors you can make lots of other colors? Those three colors are called "primary colors".

(Rockford) Excuse me, my good friend. But what are the primary colors?

Red, yellow, blue,
Red, yellow, blue.
With red, yellow, blue,
There's so much you can do.

(Rockford) Oh, goody let's mix red and yellow.


Red and yellow mixed together,
Make the color orange.
Red and yellow mixed together,
Make the color… ORANGE!

(Trollie) What about the blues man?


Red and blue mixed together,
Make the color purple.
Red and blue mixed together
Make the color… PURPLE!

(Rollie holds up a can of yellow paint and a can of blue paint and tells the singers to not forget about yellow and blue and mix them together. Since red and yellow make orange, while red and blue make purple, Rollie wants to know what yellow and blue make. Because there is one other color we can mix with two primary colors.)

(Rollie) But don't forget yellow and blue.


Yellow and blue mixed together,

(So indeed, yellow and blue make the secondary color green. But what happens when you mix all three primary colors? Rollie explains that in the final verse before going back to the same refrain line in the song.)


(Rollie) And if I mix all three together,
What color will be found?
Red, yellow, and blue together,
They make the color… BROWN!

(In response, Trollie holds a can of red paint, Rockford has a can of yellow, and Rollie has a can of blue. They dump the cans of red, yellow, and blue paint into the magic paint glass. And since red, yellow, and blue --all three primary colors-- make the color brown, the red, yellow, and blue paint make brown paint. So brown is the color you get when you mix all three primary colors. After the viewer gets brown, the song returns to its refrain verse or "stanza".)

Counting Up To 10[]

ROCKFORD RECTANGLE: I know that you know how to count to 5. And you're doing a wonderful job. Now let's see if we can go up to 10. This time we use both of our hands. Ready?

(To count to ten --using fingers and/or toes-- we use both of our hands and feet. Using one foot and one hand was counting up to the number five. But when we count to ten, we use both hands instead of just one of them.)

(Trollie Triangle runs away and hides himself to play this last question. This is in the new version. In the old version, the camera zooms to the people playing instruments in the background, then Trollie says his line.)

Red triangles...?! Red triangles...?!

(When Trollie calls out, "Red triangles...!? Red triangles...!?", he is trying to call out for some red triangles --trying to get red triangles to appear. Just so the user can count them and say how many there are. But no red triangles appear.)

Hmm...! How can this be!?
I don’t see any red triangles.
That means we have zero red triangles!

(A big number zero --in red-- appears. That is, to show the answer to the shape question. Because there are zero red triangles --or "no red triangles"-- there are zero. In other words, "there are zero --or 'none'".)

(Rollie, Trollie, and Rockford) ZERO RED TRIANGLES!

(A dinosaur --or monster-- must have eaten all the red triangles except for Trollie Triangle. This means, before Trollie got to this verse, the dinosaur/monster had secretly eaten all the red triangles and left. So he left zero red triangles for the shape characters --Rollie Roundman, Trollie Triangle, and Rockford Rectangle-- and the viewer to count. After the song finishes, Trollie appears again.)

Zowie, ha-ha! You have not only learned some really neat colors and shapes. But you can even count to 10. Let's learn more shapes.

(Rollie, Trollie, and Rockford do not do futher investiation about the dinosaur/monster who has eaten the red triangles from the game. And the dinosaur/monster --who ate up all the red triangles-- he remains unnoticed. But the next song appears and they proceed to move on. That is, to learn more shapes. That is, after Trollie says --to the viewers-- "Here are some more shapes".)

The Ellipse[]

Hey everyone, let's learn about other shapes!

Alright!

Oh Goody!

Alright!

The purple shape's called an ellipse, when you have more than 1 ellipse you have some ellipses!

The green and orange shapes underneath the purple ellipse are also ellipses!

Remember when we learned about the oval shape?

Well, an oval is sometimes called an ellipse.

An oval is an ellipse
When both ends are alike
An ellipse is a special oval
It’s not like a wheel on a bike

Unless your bike's wheel is really broken.

A bicycle tire is shaped like a circle.

Ha-ha!

I guess you can say an ellipse is like a squished circle.

With both ends the same.

Remember the shape you see on an egg is an oval. But it is not an ellipse. Because the 2 ends are different.

Can you find other ellipse shapes around you?

Diamonds and Squares[]

Look at the blue shape. Remember, that shape is called a diamond.

You can see the diamond shape on some cards and you might see it with other shapes to make the patterns in a quilt ha ha ha!

Pardon why, Trollie, but what color are the diamonds?

They're turquoise. Rockford my, man cool blue-green.

But Trollie my good triangle, what about those pink shapes?

That squares been old man!

The pink shapes are squares.

A square is different from a diamond, even when it is turned on it's side.

Oh, I see, so, the red shape is a diamond.

Right, and the yellow shape is a square, turn halfway on it's side.

Yeah, ha ha ha!

4 Cool Shapes[]

What is that funny looking green shape?

That shape is called a trapezoid, it has 4 sides like a square and a diamond. But it is very different from a square or a diamond --or even a rectangle.

Oh, I see a trapezoid is a shape with a long side and a short side across from each other. It is sort of like a triangle. But with the top cut off!

(Rollie) Wow, look at all the unusual shapes, and each shapes has a different color!

(Rockford) Indeed and each shape has many sides to count. Oh.

That means they must be hexagons, right, Trollie! That's right hexagons. But how many blue hexagons are there? They are sort of like squares. But they are longer and skinnier.

That's right, they're not squares. They're diamonds. There are 13 black diamonds. ha ha ha ha!

There's 1 big red shape! What is it?

Oh, I know, let's count the sides.

That's right. But only an octagon has 8 sides. There is 1 red octagon.

Hey, it looks like a stop sign. So it means that we had better stop.

(The word "STOP" appears in white in the red octagon. So now it is a real stop sign. Then the shape characters --Rollie Roundman, Trollie Triangle, and Rockford Rectange-- stop playing --since the red octagon looks like a stop sign. And indeed, a stop sign is an octagon. In summary, "An octagon is a shape with 8 sides, the octagon is red, and a stop sign --in reality-- is an octagon". It is time to stop playing, by that saying of Rollie. Rollie, he says, "It is like a stop sign. So I guess we better stop". When they stop playing and put away their activities --or in this case their "shape activities"-- they return to the main auditorium. And Rollie Roundman waves goodbye.)

(This song is the same as the first song "Colors Colors All Around". However, only the first verse is sung. This song on the audio cassette is on Side B. The instrumental version however is on Side A --the last song on Side A. This song is the last one on Side B. On the VHS video, this song heard in the end credits followed with the song "Colors, Colors, All Around-Instrumental". It is also heard in the 2006 DVD version too. However, this and the instrumental version of the title's first song was removed in the 2011 DVD --the new version.)
